Finding a Trustworthy Credit Repair Business
There is far too much disagreement about the credit repair business to just ignore it. The fact is, the reason that many people with bad credit are hesitant to hire a credit repair company, is the bad name associated with the credit repair industry.
Nevertheless it’s just not true that all credit repair companies are scammers. You will also find professionals of high repute prepared to make their best effort to repair your credit score and credit report. The question is how to go about finding which companies are reputable and how to avoid being taken in by the scammers who are ready to take YOU for all they can get.
Contrary to the common wisdom, recognizing a deceptive credit “professional” isn’t so complicated. A common “red flag” is when such an agency proposes to fix your credit score “quickly.”
Since your credit score is calculated on the basis of your financial history, it’s just not possible to improve your credit score in a very short time. If you hear a credit repair business promises you the impossible, you know to avoid them, as you can be sure they are not to be trusted!
Also watch out for these other signs that a company is fraudulent. The fraudulent companies, in most every case, will ask for their entire fees up front.
Federal law demands that the fees charged by any credit agency be charged only after the services have been rendered. No matter how desperate you are to have your credit fixed, do not pay in advance of any services being rendered.
A fraudulent credit repair business will not hesitate to repair credit by using methods that are illegal. They will even counsel you to use illegal methods while convincing you that there is nothing wrong in doing so, because they know someone on the “inside” will cover up on their (and your) behalf.
Don’t think for a moment they’re telling the truth! Never encourage any tactics or means to improve your credit worthiness unless it’s 100 percent legal. Regardless of how desperate your problems are, they’ll be made so much worse if you’re caught using illegal means to relieve them.
If illegal means are used to improve your credit, you are the person primarily responsible; and so you can be prosecuted if caught in illegal activity. In the end, it’s just not worth the trouble!
Another simple way to know whether the credit repair business you consider hiring is “for real”, is to ask that they guide you in learning about repairing credit. A respectable company will be more than happy to provide you counseling and “hand holding” in your quest to understand more about repairing credit.
A genuine agency will take the role of a facilitator, while a dishonest agency will be resentful and wary about sharing information related to fixing your credit.
