Tinnitus is common in most of the people, but still the causes of tinnitus remain still unidentified in many patients. It is easier to treat tinnitus if you are able to ascertain its exact cause. Common causes of tinnitus include damage to the inner ear, prolonged exposure to loud noises, ear wax buildup, age related ear changes, or changes in the stricture of the ear bones.

Hearing loss in older age may also become the reason of tinnitus. A decrease in hearing as they age,many people experience. This hearing loss can lead to tinnitus as the nerves in the inner ear weaken.
Prolonged exposure to loud noises is one major cause of both hearing loss and tinnitus. People who work around loud machinery, are exposed often to gun shots, motor explosions, or even listen to iPods or other devices often can experience ear damage. Long term exposure can lead to permanent damage and tinnitus,but short term exposure can cause tinnitus that goes away as the ear heals.
A buildup of earwax commonly causes hearing loss and it can cause tinnitus as well if the pressure from the wax buildup affects the nerves in the inner ear. Easily remedied by removing the excess wax,this is one cause of tinnitus.
Some people suffer from otosclerosis which is a stiffening of the ear bones in the middle ear. It is inherited and may result in growth of extra bone in the ear and may generate hearing loss and tinnitus.
Whereas these are the commonly known reasons for tinnitus, few people never find out the reasons of their problem. The stress, damage to the head and neck, tumors of the brain and hypertension may be the causes of the tinnitus according to doctor. Meniere’s disease which is an inner ear disorder that can also cause tinnitus,there is also a rare disease.
No matter what the cause of tinnitus there are many treatments available, and although some people never find relief for most tinnitus can be eliminated or reduced through the proper treatment.
