Safest city to stay in Oahu?
hope asked:
I hear Honolulu is a little unsafe. Where’s the best city/area to stay for a tourist? Waikiki?

I stayed on Waikiki and it has the best hotels and tourist accomodation. My uncle is a native and hooked us up with the best places…so I am giving you local advice! I think we did the sheraton?? I can’t remember I travel a lot, all I know is our hotel had sister towers so you might try and google that.

Honolulu is actually very safe. Our violent crime rates are relatively low. You don’t want to let your guard totally down, which sometimes people do on vacation. I wouldn’t recommend walking alone late at night, if you are a woman. You definately don’t want to leave valuables in your rental car when you get out & sight see. Waikiki is the major tourist area on Oahu & it is safe.

North shore.
Turtle bay is a nice hotel to stay at. Haleiwa has great shops. The people are pretty friendly, and the beaches are BEAUTIFUL!

Oahu
Most hotels are in Waikiki which is right next to Honolulu. It is a very safe place and you shouldn’t have any problems as long as you show respect and remember the way you act is the way you will be treated. In all the years I lived there I never had a problem with the locals or anyone else. Compared to other cities, it is definitely safer.
If you want to get away from it all then try Turtle Bay, Ko’olina areas.

In my opinion I would say Waikiki…especially down Kalakaua Ave…I allowed my 16 year old along with her 13 year old brother and 12 year old sister to go out together after dark to stroll around while I hung out in the room at The Outrigger Waikiki…I do not generally allow them to do things such as this but with the amount of people out and Security practically every 50 feet or so it was very safe…this was last July.
