What is there to do in Hawaii?
Bri B asked:
I am 19 years old, and my family is going on our FIRST EVER family vacation on dec 26. We are going to go to Hawaii, I am dreading it and have been trying to get out of it for almost a year now, but my efforts have failed. It’s not that I don’t want a vacation, but my friends and I are all home from College and I want to chill with them.
So I want to know what is there to do in Hawaii, specifically Oahu that is fun, for someone my age.
Keep in mind, I live in southern California where it is warm and sunny 355 days a year, so I can surf and quad here, along with many other things.
O btw, forget about the polynesian cultural center or pearl harbor, I am a history major, If I have to learn one more thing about the past on my break, my head will explode.
So what can I do so I don’t die of boredom and loneliness?!?!!?
I want to do something I normally wouldnt be able to do in Orange County, CA

Kailua beach is the best ! I lived there. The bus system is great..so you don’t have to rent a car ! The shops in Waikiki are awesome…but the beaches aren’t as good. Kailua is only a half hour bus ride over the Poly. Aloha.

Learning about history from books is all well and good, actually BEING were the events took place is another entirely. You have an opportunity to travel to a place were most people will never get the chance to go and you complain!?!?
Grow up a little sweety and count your blessings and stop thinking about yourself a little bit.

OK first for sunbathing go to Ko’Olina lagoons they are lagoons with no waves. Next, u HAVE to go to Hanauma Bay snokling park, there r a lot of fish. And, i know South Coast Plaza probably has a lot of the same stores, but u have to go to Ala Moana Center there r a lot of up scale stores and some specialty stores, for very local stores go to Ward Center. U have to go to the Honolulu Cookie Company… yummmmmm. Enjoy ur trip. Aloha

Wow you’re the first person I’ve ever heard dreading to go to Hawaii for a vacation. You can go on helicopter rides, swim on the waterfalls, enjoy the beautiful beaches, go scuba diving, get pampered at the spa, snorkelling, jetskiing, parasailing, go to a luau and go shopping. Hawaii is a beautiful place with lots to offer. Enjoy it and be grateful that you have this opportunity to experience its beauty.

Wow! You have a really bad attitude about this. You should consider yourself lucky that your parents are still including you in events like this as you are over 18 and old enough to fend for yourself.
But since you asked, I will tell you some things you can do on Oahu: hike up Diamond Head, shop, hang out on Waikiki Beach, go to Duke’s in the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, take a catamaran ride off Waikiki Beach, sit and talk to local surfers at the beach boy stands on the beach…lots of stuff and most of it doesn’t require money!
BTW, I am from Southern California originally (live in Hawaii now) and it is NOT warm and sunny 355 days a year in SoCal! Maybe on TV and in movies, but not in real life. Just because it doesn’t snow doesn’t mean it isn’t cold…or rainy. The average daily temperature in Hawaii is 78 and it has been in the low 80s all week. I know it isn’t that “warm and sunny” in SoCal!
